Misdemeanor Filing Rate

Misdemeanor filings for calendar years 2000 through 2008. A misdemeanor filing occurs when a misdemeanor case is officially entered in the courts against one or more defendants by the state's attorney. Misdemeanors are less serious than felonies, and can carry sentences of up to two years probation and incarceration for less than one year.
