Smarter Spending: Reducing Spending on Corrections to Increase Public Safety through Justice Reinvestment

This presentation describes a multi-jurisdictional and multi-disciplinary strategy designed to reduce spending on corrections, increase public safety, and improve conditions in neighborhoods to which people are most likely to return from prison will be presented. Examples of justice reinvestment in other states and the implications for the model also will be discussed.

Funding Sources in a Time of Fiscal Challenge

Implementing or maintaining effective strategies in the face of tight budgets and tough economic times is a universal challenge facing all public sector managers and practitioners. State and local criminal justice decision makers must be savvy in the ways of grant funding to fulfill their obligation to provide public safety. 

This workshop provides an overview of adult federal funding sources from partners and non-government funding opportunities including professional associations, foundations and other sources. Selecting a funding source, understanding the funding cycle, and the essentials of successful funding proposals are also discussed.
